Last year Lakeville North went 19-2 during the regular season and was a heavy favorite to reach the state tournament before suffering playoff losses to Park and Eastview by identical 4-1 scores, the loss to Eastview ending the Panthers' season. Rozell, who also plays basketball, hit .538 with six home runs and 38 RBI during the regular season, when she also scored 24 runs. She has committed to play for Minnesota while Zins has committed to North Dakota. Lakeville North opened its season on Wednesday with a 7-0 win over Eagan.

Lakeville South opened its season with 2-0 and 8-3 wins over Burnsville and Apple Valley. Stober, a Gophers recruit, posted a 1.27 ERA and 114 strikeouts last season, when she batted .410 with a .600 slugging percentage. Stober and Rozell were first team All-Metro selections last season.
