Anoka at Maple Grove
4:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 13

It only seems right that Anoka meets Maple Grove in the last game of the regular season.

The No. 3-3A Tornadoes (14-0-1, 11-0-1) have secured second place in the Northwest Suburban Conference standings after blowing through every team in the league  -- except for the No. 1-ranked Crimson (15-2, 12-0). Their meeting on May 13 could set up as a showdown for the league championship.

Anoka begins the week riding high from a 5-1 victory over St. Francis, a game in which sophomore Amber Elliott struck out 15 Fighting Saints, walked four and allowed two hits in pitching six innings. Senior outfielder Taylor Chell hit a solo home run and freshman outfielder Gina Wilson went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Tornadoes.

Maple Grove is no longer undefeated after losing to Eagan and No. 2-3A Bloomington Jefferson in the Eastview Tournament on May 2. The Crimson (15-2, 12-0) bounced back with wins over Totino-Grace, Park Center and and Osseo to remain atop the conference standings.

Sydney Smith struck out seven and walked two while pitching a complete-game three-hitter in an 11-0 victory over Andover on April 22. The senior also went 3-for-3 with with two RBI, while sophomore infielder Erin Roehl was 2-for-3 with a home run.
