Farmington is coming off a 16-10 season that culminated with its third state tournament appearance of the past four years.

To make it back to state this season, the Tigers will look for leadership from center fielder Carly Esselman. The senior posted a .451 batting average as Farmington's leadoff hitter and was selected to the Class 3A all-state second team by the coaches association last year.

Batterymates Maddie Muelken and Emily Berdan also return for the Tigers. Muelken finished with a 2.39 ERA and 10 walks in pitching 146 2/3 innings last year. She also drove in 16 runs and hit .351. Berdan, a catcher, knocked four home runs and finished with 19 RBI.

Edina finished 5-16 last year and graduated Star Tribune All-Metro first team catcher Shannon Petersen, who hit .475 with 17 RBI last year. She is playing at Augustana (S.D.).
