Elk River at Becker
4:30 p.m., Friday, May 13

Becker has shown it can compete with the state's top teams, evidenced by a 2-1 loss to No. 10-4A Buffalo on April 29.

Friday's matchup with No. 12-4A Elk River gives the No. 5-3A Bulldogs another chance at bringing down a quality opponent while building up their resume.

Becker (10-3, 5-0) didn’t fare well at its home tournament last Saturday. After opening play with a 13-4 win over Park Center, the Bulldogs lost to Superior 2-0 and Lakeville North 5-4.

Elk River (10-2, 8-0) has eked out victories in its last three games, defeating Champlin Park 2-1, No. 9-3A Totino-Grace 4-0 and Blaine 3-2.

Eighth-grade catcher Jess Weisgram is batting .476 in seven games for the Elks, while veterans Marie Deaton (.359) and Olivia Wolters (.350) consistently provide hits. Wolters is also a dominant pitcher, posting a 10-2 record, 1.21 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 81 innings.
