New Ulm Cathedral at Mankato Loyola
5 p.m., Thursday, May 19

Mankato Loyola disrupted New Ulm Cathedral’s five-year run at the state tournament with a pair of 4-1 wins in last year’s Class 1A, Section 2 championship, and it’s possible the two teams meet again in the postseason following Thursday’s regular season finale.

The No. 3-1A Greyhounds (17-0, 14-0) have induced the 10-run rule in nine victories this season and have allowed an average of less than two runs a game. All-state senior pitcher Anna Mohr has a lot to do with the success, along with a group of four other seniors set on returning to the section championship game.

The Crusaders (12-4, 6-1) are led by all-state honorable mention selections in pitcher Kayla Gross and shortstop Rae Dose, who combined for 50 RBI last season leading up to the Class 1A state tournament.

Mankato Loyola has gone 1-3 in its last four games and could use a good performance against New Ulm Cathedral as momentum heading into the postseason.
