Becker vs. Elk River
4:30 p.m., Friday, April 21

Elk River’s reign over the Northwest metro has waned as surrounding communities have grown, but each year the Elks manage to be a dangerous contender in the region. Elk River hasn’t had a losing season in seven years and is off to another promising start this season.

The Elks (2-0, 2-0) knocked off Northwest Suburban Conference foes Coon Rapids (7-4 on April 11) and Centennial (5-3 on April 13) to open the year. Haley Ullrich hit a home run and drove in three runs against Coon Rapids and also logged the win after throwing a complete game.

Becker (3-1, 3-0) picked up its first loss of season on April 13 in a 7-5 decision against Maple Lake, but will have the opportunity to bounce back against Milaca on Tuesday before facing Elk River on Friday.

Brianna Corey, a Class 3A all-state second team selection last year, leads the Bulldogs after going 10-5 with a 2.67 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 94 1/3 innings last season. Corey also hit .500 with 21 RBI. Battery mate Ellie Schwartz is back for her junior season after hitting .362 with 12 RBI in 2016.
