Zumbrota-Mazeppa vs. Stewartville
5 p.m., Monday, May 1

Stewartville (8-1, 3-1) pitcher Kara O’Byrne, a North Dakota State recruit, has put up a lot of zeros this season and she’ll try to add another one against defending Hiawatha Valley League champion Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

The No. 6-3A Tigers have shut out six opponents and O’Byrne just threw a no-hitter in a 10-0, six-inning win over Pine Island on April 27. O’Byrne tallied 15 strikeouts and one walk in the performance.

The No. 7-2A Cougars had a North Dakota State recruit of their own last season in Morgan Olson, who helped guide the team to the first state title in school history last year.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa (7-3, 5-0) has struggled recently, going 1-2 at its tournament on April 22. It lost 2-0 to Norwood Young America and 2-1 to Moose Lake-Willow River, but the Cougars started the tournament with a 7-5 win over No. 4-3A Becker where Lyndsey Quam struck out five. Quam also drove in a pair of runs and went 2-for-3 while Rylee Schliep went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
