New Prague vs. Orono
4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 16

New Prague saw its season-long 17-game winning streak come to a close in a 2-0 loss to Hutchinson on May 11. The defeat makes the Wright County Conference East title race much tighter for the No. 8-4A Trojans (17-1, 7-1), who hold a two-game lead over Orono with two games remaining.

New Prague knocked off No. 3-4A Prior Lake 3-0 on May 5, with Mia Kraimer allowing three hits and striking out five. She also hit a bases-loaded double to drive in two runs while Taylor Koehnen hit a solo home run.

Orono (9-7, 5-3) can make things interesting in the conference with a win on Tuesday, but the Spartans would still need to defeat Holy Family Catholic in the regular-season finale and have Waconia beat New Prague to get a piece of the league title.

In the first meeting with New Prague this season, Orono led 2-1 going into the bottom half of the third inning. The Trojans scored once to tie the game and got a run across in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win. Jordan Allar and Madysson Schliinz each had RBI doubles while pitcher Alyssa Denneson allowed two runs on nine hits, walked three and struck out five for the Spartans. It may take repeats of those performances to knock off New Prague in the rematch.
