Zumbrota-Mazeppa

vs. Jordan

5 p.m., Friday, April 6

Fresh off winning its second consecutive Class 2A state title, Zumbrota-Mazeppa looks to continue its dominating run. The Cougars kick off the year with a good test: back-to-back road games, including a trip to Jordan.

Though Zumbrota-Mazeppa must overcome the graduation of three starting infielders, the Cougars can make up for any inexperience with a seasoned battery.

Senior ace pitcher Lyndsey Quam returns to the circle after striking out 142 batters in 102 innings last season, and she'll continue throwing to her sister and starting catcher, Natalye Quam.

The Jaguars have experience at pitcher, too. Senior Lydia Plechaty is a five-year varsity starter, and the Wisconsin-La Crosse commit posted a 1.60 ERA in 166 innings last season. She also was a force with the bat, hitting .448 with 27 RBI.
