Blaze Start Off On The Right Foot

The 2013 Burnsville High School Fastpitch Softball Team competed in 2 of their 3 alloted scrimmages dates over the weekend. On Friday Night, the Blaze traveled North the the Husky Dome, on the campus of St. Cloud State University, to compete against Northwest Suburban Conference powerhouse Elk River, defending Section 7AAA Champion Forest Lake, and an young upstart Royals squad from Rogers.

In Game 1, the Blaze got a solid pitching performance from Senior hurler Shannon Callanan. Game 2 featured 7th grade pitcher Megan Osterhaus in the circle for her first varsity action of her career versus a talented and well-coached Rangers team from Forest Lake. Finally, the Blaze turned up the offense against a scrappy team from Rogers with Senior Elliie Grubb and 8th Grader Sydnie McCarthy tossing in the combined effort.

Day 2 featured more stiff competition, this time in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount. The schedule pinned the Blaze against Forest Lake for a 2nd time in as many days, the Section 6AAA champion Orono Spartans, and the Hornets of Edina.

The pitchers threw well, the hitters were on fire all day, and there were some outstanding defensive plays by a solid infield of Kelly Grove (3B, Jr.), Becky Gigsted (SS, Jr.), Claire Boatman (2B, So.), Abby Schullberg (1B, Sr.), and Megan Threlkeld (C, Sr.).

The Blaze are slated to return to action in their 3rd scrimmage date of the season on April 3rd vs. Mounds View, Concordia Acadmey - Roseville, and St. Louis Park.

The 1st regular season game is set for April 5th vs. the Cougars of Lakeville South.
