Jordan senior third baseman Alexa Dalton is driven to get better on a yearly basis.

Jordan senior third baseman Alexa Dalton is driven to get better on a yearly basis, and this season is no exception.

Dalton opened the season with back-to-back games in which she hit two home runs for the Jaguars’ softball team. She had three hits in both games.

Dalton had four RBI in a 6-3 triumph over Tri-City United in the season opener. She followed up with three RBI in a 10-0 victory over Mayer Lutheran. Both were Minnesota River Conference matchups.

Here is a closer look at Dalton:

Q: The best movie I’ve seen in the last year?

A: “Divergent.”

Q: Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me?

A: Busy bee, outgoing and funny.

Q: Three songs I never skip on my iPod are …

A: … “Warrior” by Demi Lovato; “Who Are You” by Fifth Harmony; and “1, 2 Step” by Ciara.

Q: When did you start playing softball?

A: I had a bat in my hand by the age of 2. I played year-round softball in Atlanta for about six years. My love for the game has stayed strong throughout and here I am now, a senior in high school, and still wishing professional softball was a choice.

Q: At my first varsity practice, I felt …

A: … nervous and intimidated. I remember being so excited to be a part of the team. They were so welcoming, and by the end of the first practice I knew it was going to be a good season.

Q: What did you work on most in the offseason?

A: I worked a lot on myself and mind-set for the game. I told myself that this season would be better than the rest. I would go into the season with a positive and determined attitude, and would end the season the same way.

Q: To get focused for a game, I …

A: … listen to a couple songs that will stick in my head. I sing them throughout the game to keep me focused.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A: My first varsity game. As a starting eighth-grader, I had huge shoes to fill, and I remember the nerves and adrenaline I had to put aside to prove to the coach that he had made the right decision.

Q: What were your goals coming into the season?

A: To have a great season and make it a long season. I want the team to make it further than we’ve ever gone. Another goal was a personal goal, and that is to be better than I was last year. Improvement is huge to me, and I want to feel like I have improved. I want to have less errors and a higher batting average.

Q: Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why?

A: The Georgia Bulldogs softball team. Ever since I saw my first Bulldog game, I have dreamed of playing for them. Growing up in Georgia, I went to a Bulldog game with my team and got to meet the team. They have such a good softball program. I look up to the girls who were on the team, and still to the girls who are on it now.

Q: In 10 years, I hope I’m …

A: … happy, settled in an apartment in a big city, and working for a record label or recording studio. Music is such a big part of my life.
