SEMIFINAL GAMES

Maple Lake vs. New Ulm (5 p.m.)

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Hermantown (7 p.m.)

QUARTERFINAL GAMES

Maple Lake 4, Le Sueur-Henderson 2

Maple Lake broke a 1-1 tie with three runs unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh and held off two Le Sueur-Henderson attempts to rally in the sixth and seventh innings. The Irish (25-2) took advantage of two errors and an uncharacteristic wild pitch by Carlie Brandt to take the lead. Le Sueur-Henderson (21-4), the Class 2A runners up in 2014, had the bases loaded in the sixth and had two runners on base in the seventh, but managed just one run.

New Ulm 2, Visitation 0

All either team needed was one big hit. It was New Ulm (21-4) that got it, a two-run home run by Brittany Denn in the bottom of the sixth inning, to break a scoreless pitchers’ duel between Visitation’s Kierstin Anderson-Glass and the Eagles’ Tori Botten. Botten scattered five hits and struck out three. Anderson-Glass was nearly as good, giving up five hits with nine strikeouts, her only mistake coming on the pitch to Denn. “It’s tough, but what can you do?” said centerfielder Maggie Casper, who watched the home run soar over the fence. “It was a great hit. Hat’s off to her.”

Kasson-Mantorville 3, Milaca 0

Maddie Damon was all business in the KoMets' victory. And for the ultra-talented Damon, that usually means something special. The senior, who will pitch for Purdue next year, threw the 35th no-hitter in state tournament history. She walked just one batter and struck out 14 as Kasson-Mantorville (24-2) remained on track to win its second straight Class 2A title.

Hermantown 8, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 1

The Hawks hit three home runs – two by shortstop Jillayne Gilbert – and cruised past the Rebels. Befitting a team making its 21st state tournament appearance, Hermantown (22-5) looked comfortable in the surroundings at Mankato’s Caswell Park. It spotted Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (25-2) a run in the first inning, then scored in four of the next six innings. Hermantown pitcher Breanna Thomas gave up four hits, wakled one and struck out four.
