Player of the Week candidates

Marie Schupanitz, Totino-Grace. The junior right-handed hitter came through with a home run, a triple and four RBI to lead her team to victory in a tight 7-6 battle with Blaine.

Abby Sagert, Prior Lake. The junior hit two home runs and totaled four RBI to help the Lakers defeat Eagan 6-1 on May 9. She also had two hits and a run scored in a 14-1 victory over Rosemount on May 11.

Molly Swenson, Anoka. Swenson was solid in the pitcher's circle, as the senior earned an 11-0 victory against Andover last Tuesday and tallied 15 strikeouts -- and hit two singles with two runs scored and an RBI -- in an 18-2 victory over Irondale two days later.

Marissa Hawkins, Tartan. Hawkins hit a homer and a double to finish with four RBI, helping propel Tartan to an 11-1 win over South St. Paul. The junior has eight home runs this season.

Hailey Fletcher, North Lakes Academy. Fletcher smacked a home run and a double, and notched five RBI against Charter Stars in an 11-5 victory. The sophomore has an .806 batting average on the season.

Samantha Patton, Sauk Rapids-Rice. The junior pitcher was a dual threat in a 14-2 victory over Fergus Falls. Patton hit two doubles and a home run, and posted three RBI. She also threw seven strikeouts, helping increase her season total to 105.

MaKenna Vavrichek, Blake. She's only an eighth-grader, but she proved her power in a 17-6 victory over Brooklyn Center last Thursday. Vavrichek hit a double, a triple and a home run, and finished with four runs scored and five RBI. She also had two runs scored and two hits at St. Paul Central one day earlier.

Courtney Kopischke, Bloomington Kennedy. The freshman left-hander threw 19 strikeouts in a 3-2 loss to Richfield. She’s amassed 143 strikeouts this season.
