Anoka's Amber Elliott was named Ms. Softball at a Target Field luncheon on June 25.

She was selected from a pool of seven finalists, who represent the state’s most dominant senior softball players and were chosen by college coaches and scouts. The Play Ball! Ms. Softball Award, which is presented by Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Minute Men, goes to the most prominent team leader and performer.

Elliott proved worthy of the honor in the circle and the plate this season.

Anoka's right-handed ace ended the year with a 10-2 record. She amassed 145 strikeouts while walking only 15 and posted a 0.61 ERA in pitching 103 2/3 innings.

She also finished with 31 hits, 19 runs and a .466 batting average, making the 2017 Star Tribune All-Metro first teamer one of the top producers in the Tornadoes' batting order.

Elliott led Anoka to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state tournament, throwing 17 strikeouts (which is a Tornadoes' single-game record) and contributing two hits in a 10-inning, 1-0 heartbreaking loss to Farmington in the championship game on June 9.

The Augustana-bound Elliott closes her high school pitching career with an 0.93 ERA and more than 500 strikeouts.

The other Ms. Softball nominees were Ashton Hoeppner (Winona), Taylor Manno (Chanhassen), Ashley Mickschl (Woodbury), Kara O'Byrne (Stewartville), Marybeth Olson (Chanhassen) and Gabby Sprang (Rosemount).

Elliott will be honored July 6 at Target Field, where she’ll throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Twins game.
