Farmington, seeded fifth in the state tournament, had one of the most unlikely roads to the Class 4A state title game.

Having to face No. 1 Chanhassen in the semifinals after the Storm had lost just one game in regular season is a daunting task alone. Add in the fact the Tigers' ace, Maddie Muelken, was battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma all season and a stake at the championship seemed highly unlikely.

But Muelken and Farmington persevered, shutting out the Storm 2-0 and No. 2 Anoka 1-0 in 10-inning walk-off fashion for the program's first-ever title a day later. Three members of the Tigers landed selections on the Class 4A all-tournament team in Muelken, Emma Frost and Emily Berdan.

Muelken pitched every inning of the tournament, posting a 0.58 earned run average and went nine scoreless innings against the 2017 Ms. Softball recipient, Anoka's Amber Elliott, who also earned all-tournament honors.

Frost, a sophomore third baseman, hit the game-winning home run in the championship game; a testament to her .455 batting average and Class 4A high four runs scored during the tournament.

Berdan led the Class 4A field with six RBI and played a hand in one of the two runs during the Tigers' shutout of Chanhassen.

Jenna King and LeeAnna Nevin join teammate Elliott on the all-tournament team, while the Storm boast two selections in Jessica Bren and Kali O’Keeffe.

The all-tournament teams are selected by a panel of coaches attending the tournament.
