The defending Class 3A, Section 8 champion Brainerd Warriors crushed eight hits and scored nine runs in the first inning, then sat back and watched Nikki Anderson strike out 11 and hold the Alexandria Cardinals to one hit for a 10-0 season-opening victory Tuesday at Adamson Field.

In a game that lasted less than an hour, Brainerd collected 12 hits and two walks.
