Three-star athelete talks about her favorite high school memories

Emily Engelmeier

Junior Emily Engelmeier stays busy as a three-sport athlete at South St. Paul High School. She is currently pitching for the Packers’f softball team. She also plays tennis and hockey. Here is a closer look at Engelmeier:

The best movie I’ve seen in the past year? “Inception.”

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are? “Live a Little” by Kenny Chesney; “For the First Time” by the Script; “The Show Goes On” by Lupe Fiasco.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Driven; caring; dependable.

Favorite meal before a game? Anything my mother makes. Nothing too big before a game.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … very nervous and shy, considering I was only in seventh grade.

What are your goals for the 2010-11 season? My goals for this softball season are to have a winning record and beat a top team like Hill-Murray or North St. Paul. Also, having the team improve throughout the season and being a good captain.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Most memorable moment, not necessarily the best moment, was when I hurt my knee in eighth grade and freshman year during hockey and had to get surgery. I ended up having to sit out that whole season and part of the previous season. It was hard to bounce back after that.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I try to get my homework done right after practice, and just make time for both.  I don’t have a lot of trouble with it.

Do you have a secret talent – and if so, what is it? I don’t keep any of my talents secret.
