Senior shares thoughts after three-straight championship seasons

Lauren Anders

Lauren Anders has been an outfielder on New Life Academy’s three-time Class 1A state champion softball team. She shares her thoughts on the game.

Most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Being named to the all-tournament team just minutes after our team won the state championship for the third year in a row.

Are you involved in other activities? I have been a varsity cheerleader for five years. I will be attending Texas Christian University. Two weeks ago, I tried out and made the TCU cheerleading  team!!

First softball memory: Playing t-ball when I was 4. After my first game, the coach told my parents that they should bring along sandbox toys for me because I was more interested in playing in the sand than paying attention to the game.

Three things that you couldn’t play without: 1. A ribbon in my hair. 2. My batting gloves that don’t match. 3.  My Grandpa Anders. He has been my personal coach for the last four years.

One small tip before a big game: Pray. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

Favorite part of a game: Definitely making great catches in the outfield.

What aspect of practice makes you groan? Running laps after someone strikes out looking in a game.

One sacrifice during the season: After school naps!

If you couldn’t play softball, what would you do? Take my after school naps. On a serious note, I would be in the school’s spring drama.
