Becker at Buffalo

Buffalo might have surprised teams on its way to securing the program’s first trip to the state tournament a year ago, but teams are not overlooking the No. 10-4A Bison this season.

In a 5-4 victory on April 22, No. 4-4A Rogers ended Buffalo's undefeated start and gained an early edge in the Mississippi 8 Conference standings.

With just three seniors, the Bison (9-1, 5-1) are a young team, but their underclassmen are putting up big numbers.

Sophomore Sarah Hudson leads the team with 19 RBI and is hitting .472 with three home runs. Emily Hansen, who had a team-best five home runs as an eighth-grader two years ago, is hitting .571 with 13 RBI in her sophomore season. Junior Autumn Senger has three home runs, eight RBI and a .375 batting average.

Becker features a balanced lineup with senior Payton Williams leading the team with nine RBI. Senior Erika Schwartz (.240, 7 RBI), eighth-grader Corrie Weise (.455, 6 RBI) and freshman Kaylyn Wiehle (.412, 6 RBI) are also producing at the plate.

A victory over the Bison could help the No. 3-3A Bulldogs (7-0, 3-0) build momentum for the postseason as they look to secure their third consecutive state tournament bid. Becker finished fourth at state last year.
