Maple Grove defeated Spring Lake Park in last year’s Class 3A, Section 5 tournament en route to a fourth straight trip to the state tournament, and Thursday's meeting will be the first time they've played since the Crimson's playoff win.

The No. 17-4A Panthers (5-3, 4-1) remain in the race for the Northwest Suburban Conference title despite an up-and-down start.

After the scoring three or fewer runs in its first three games, Maple Grove has found its offense. The No. 14-4A Crimson (4-2, 3-2) have outscored opponents 34-8 while winning their last three games.
