Richfield vs.

Bloomington Jefferson

6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 28

Bloomington Jefferson made a nice statement by scoring 34 runs in a 3-0 start to the season. A pair of one-run victories last week against highly-regarded Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Chanhassen only amplified that statement.

The Jaguars (5-0, 5-0) have been overwhelming at the plate and effective from the pitching circle. Lauren Giesen is 7-for-17 with 10 RBIs; catcher Hannah Effertz is 9-for-17 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs; Tabitha Acketz is 7-for-14 with a pair of doubles and seven RBIs; center fielder Jackie Larsen is 11-for-21 with three doubles; and Jordan Fasching is 6-for-16 with a double, a home run and five RBIs.

Opponents simply haven’t been able to keep up with the Jaguars’ hitters.

Giesen has a 4-0 record as a pitcher with 19 strikeouts in 24 innings and a 2.33 ERA. She and Josie Becker combined to lead the Jaguars to an 8-7 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret’s on April 20 and a 7-6 defeat of Chanhassen two days later.

The Jaguars will face Robbinsdale Cooper on Monday, and if they win that matchup, try to extend their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday against a Richfield team with talent and experience.

Five-year starters Rynne Skof (shortstop) and Ahna Christian (second base) give the Spartans (3-2, 3-1) a strong infield. They are two of six senior starters at Richfield.
