Benilde-St. Margaret’s proved in 2021 it could win a state title without picking up a conference crown along the way.

The Red Knights would prefer the double dip, though.

They accomplished the first half of the equation Tuesday in a 9-5 win against Chanhassen (10-2, 5-1) to claim at least a share, with the tiebreaker in their favor, of the Metro West Conference title with one game remaining in the season.

It’s Benilde-St. Margaret’s’ (12-0, 6-0) third time at the top in the last four seasons.

The Red Knights go for the outright title when they host Waconia (2-10, 0-6) on Thursday.
