Youthful exuberance and confident pitching were the name of the game for Shakopee in Monday night’s matchup between the Sabers and the Tigers. Those within the pitching circle remained tight for all seven innings, but it was Shakopee’s combination of pitchers who ultimately took the glory as the Sabers defeated the Tigers 3-0.

After Shakopee opened the first inning with a run, courtesy of a Raegan Kraft single, junior Madison Soule worked confidently in the circle through two more innings. Then it was Natalie Danna’s turn to impress.

The eighth grader was playing in only her third varsity game. But she looked like a seasoned upperclassman and held off Farmington’s offensive surge. To close out the fifth inning, Danna tossed an important strikeout that kept the Tigers from scoring with the bases loaded. Then she did the exact same thing in the sixth.

That performance under pressure was exactly what Shakopee needed to see out the win.

First Report

Shakopee didn’t need many runs to come out victorious in Monday night’s matchup between the Sabers and the Tigers. Instead, the Sabers were spurred on by a complete pitching performance by their trio of Madison Soule, Sylvia Shromoff and Natalie Danna to a decisive 3-0 win over Farmington.

The game started positive for the Sabers (9-2) when Raegen Kraft drove a line drive into left field, scoring Chayse Doering. And it was Doering’s excellent baserunning that got her in position to score as she stole second and third just before Kraft cracked her single.

But it was junior Lily Treml who provided the highlight of the contest later in the game, when she connected with a perfect swing that sent the ball flying for a home run. Treml’s first home run of the season was the dagger that the Sabers needed as the Tigers always looked threatening with runners on base.

However, Farmington couldn’t capitalize after getting on base and the Sabers’ pitching staff cleaned up late in the game for a 3-0 win.
