When Rosemount senior star Jessa Snippes is brought up, the conversation generally focuses on her pitching prowess in the circle. But Irish coach Tiffany Rose thinks leaving out her hitting ability is a mistake.

“I’ve been saying all year the Jessa story isn’t about pitching,” she said. “It’s about Jessa pitching and Jessa hitting. She’s just as great at the plate as she is on the mound. I think that’s what makes her the best player.”

Snippes showed why her offense is something that should be talked about Friday. Besides pitching a complete game, she led her team’s offensive effort went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as Rosemount won 10-5 against East Ridge to capture the Class 4A, Section 3 championship on Friday.

Friday’s game for the Irish was not only a chance at a section championship. It was a chance to extract some revenge against the Raptors, who defeated Rosemount in the 2022 section championship.

First Report

Rosemount is returning to the state tournament for the first time since 2021 as the Irish took down the defending section champion—East Ridge—10-5 on Friday in the Class 4A, Section 3 final at Richfield Middle School.

The Raptors (12-13), which needed to win twice on Friday to repeat as section champions, got off to a good start following a 10-0 loss to top-seeded Rosemount earlier in the tournament. Magdalene Dugas got the rally going with a double and came around to score. East Ridge managed two runs in the first inning on a hit and two Irish errors.

Rosemount (23-0) responded right back with the top of its order leading the way. The Irish scored four runs in the bottom of the first on 4 hits and took advantage of two Raptor errors. Cece Hanson, the leadoff hitter, scored the first Irish run. She reached base three times in Friday’s game and scored every time.

Hanson came around on an RBI single from Rosemount’s Jessa Snippes. She went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Right behind her was Paige Zender, who reached base all four times, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Snippes also did her part in the circle. After giving up runs in each of the first four innings, she finished the game retiring 10 consecutive batters. East Ridge’s Anna Koch pitched all six innings for the Raptors, allowing 12 hits and all 10 runs while dealing with four Raptor errors.
