The South Suburban Conference is battling for bragging rights as the premier softball conference in the state and the top teams will be on display in a matchup of top 5-ranked squads.
Fifth-ranked Bloomington Jefferson will stroll into No. 3 Lakeville North to begin this week and one will have its first blemish in conference play at days end. The Jaguars are 5-0 in South Suburban play while Lakeville North is right there with a 4-0 record.
Kylie Macziewski has been an a tear for Bloomington Jefferson. She has three home runs, 13 RBI and is doing that with a team leading .600 batting average.
The Jaguars pitching staff has been equally as impressive, holding a 1.70 ERA. The anchor has been Krista Flugstad, who has an 8-1 record with a 1.02 ERA in 62 innings pitched.
The Panthers have been just as strong on the defensive side. Through 12 games they have allowed only 12 runs, the most was four in a 20-4 rout of Cambridge-Isanti.
Both teams have played tight defensively on the last two weeks and have proven to be able to win the close ones. The Jaguars have one loss -- to defending state champion Elk River. A win against an undefeated Panthers squad could make that loss a distant memory.
