The Royals tend to play their best in conference matchups.
They lost their first four games of the season, including a 5-0 loss to Eden Prairie on April 15, but have since defeated each of the other four Lake Conference teams once by a combined margin of 26-11. They sit atop the conference standings with a 4-1 conference record (4-5 overall) heading into their Top Game of the Week matchup with Minnetonka.
The defending Lake Conference champion Skippers are close behind the Royals, even after a 2-1 loss to No. 1-ranked Maple Grove on April 29. Minnetonka has been tenacious in close games, winning three extra-inning contests en route to a 5-4 overall record (2-1 conference).
Senior Abby Martinson drove in the game-winning runs in April 23's 8-6 win over Edina and April 25's 8-7 win over Holy Family.
