SEMIFINAL GAMES

New Life Academy vs. Mankato Loyola (3 p.m.)

New York Mills vs. Badger/Greenbush-Middle River (7 p.m.)

QUARTERFINAL GAMES

New Life Academy 7, Hayfield 2

It took awhile for the No. 1-ranked Eagles to get on track in their quest for their fifth state title, but the bats came around in the latter innings as they pulled away for the victory. Hayfield scored two runs in the top of the first, but that was all the offense the Vikings would get. New Life pitcher Valerie Hohol allowed just two hits and no runs through the final six innings. The Eagles (21-3) broke open the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in bottom of the sixth. Centerfielder Sydney Smith went 4-for-4 and score twice for New Life.

Mankato Loyola 10, Edgerton/SW MN Christian 7

The Crusaders came into the tournament with a reputation for offense and lived up to it, compiling 14 hits in the game and rallying for four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Megan Schroeder pitched a complete game and went 3-for-4 at the plate and Kayla Gross hit a three-run homer for the Crusaders (25-3). Tanner Gunnink had four hits and Liz Buckridge added three for the Flying Dutchmen (22-2).

Badger/Greenbush-Middle River 11, Rush City 1 (5 innnings)

A six-run run third inning broke open the game and the Gators piled on enough runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win by run-rule (game considered complete when one team leads another by 10 runs after five innings). Badger/Greenbush-Middle River pounded out 12 hits, with four players – Breanna Dallager, Morgan Anderson, Gracel Gullickson and Kellie Parnow – getting two hits apiece.

New York Mills 14, Cherry 7

The hitters took center stage for both teams, which combined for 21 runs and 26 base hits. New York Mills (22-5) took the lead for good with a 7-run fifth inning, chasing Cherry starter Joely Roberts. Kenna Salo had three hits and drove in four runs and Allison Stafki added three hits for New York Mills. Mikayla Kowarsch had three hits and scored two runs for Cherry (20-5).
