Burnsville gets last-inning push to top Kennedy

BURNSVILLE 6, BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 2: It looked like a total mismatch, the Class 3A, No. 1 Blaze (7-0) against the winless Eagles. That was hardly the case Monday afternoon. Burnsville scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning, outlasting Kennedy in South Suburban Conference play.  Megan Lehnen singled in the go-ahead run in the ninth.  Winning pitcher Kelsey Anderson, Megan Threlkeld and Abby Johnson also had run-scoring hits in the inning. Anderson threw a four-hitter while striking out 18. The Eagles tied it with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, and left the bases loaded.

HILL-MURRAY 11, SIMLEY 7: Junior Sydney Sabian went 3-for-3, including two triples, with three RBI in the Pioneers’ victory over the Spartans in the Classic Suburban. Hill-Murray freshman Nicole Thompson went 4-for-4 and scored four times.

NORTH ST. PAUL 2, SOUTH ST. PAUL 0: Junior Carley Pickett tossed a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts, leading the Polars past the Packers in the Classic Suburban. Senior Becca Mroz went 2-for-3 with a solo home run.

ORONO 21-9, HUTCHINSON 1-1: The Spartans had on their hitting shoes in a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers in the Wright County. Becky Smith went 5-for-8, including two two-run home runs, and scored eight runs in the two games.  Teammate Erin Lucas also homered twice while Jessica Flakne belted a grand slam.

ST. FRANCIS 1, SPRING LAKE PARK 0: Junior Sam Salo’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth scored freshman Taylor Snelling, giving the Saints a victory over the Panthers in the North Suburban. With two runners on base in the top of the seventh, Snelling also made a game-saving catch in the right-center field gap which resulted in a game-ending double play.

ST. PAUL JOHNSON 10, ST. PAUL COMO PARK 3: The Governors improved to 6-0 on the season as senior Jenna Dushaw went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
