Battle of ranked teams goes Shakopee’s way

SHAKOPEE 6, HOPKINS 1: Timely hitting and strong pitching is a winning combination, as the No. 6, 3A Sabers demonstrated. Lindsey Sheehan’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored two runs, giving Shakopee a comfortable 4-1 lead en route to a non-conference victory over the No. 4, 3A Royals. Ashley Walker pitched a three-hitter for the Sabers, striking out 8, improving her record to 8-0 on the season.

TOTINO-GRACE 7, IRONDALE 0: Pitcher Erica Meyer continued her dominant spring by pitching her sixth consecutive shutout. She gave up three hits and struck out 13 and added two hits and an RBI at the plate. “She’s just been phenomenal all year,” Totino-Grace coach Paul Harrington said.

BECKER 1, ROGERS 0: Freshman Kadee Vesledahl threw her first career shutout for the victory.  Junior Cassie Baumgarten drove in the game’s only run with a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Centerfielder Ashley Valerius made a running catch with two runners on for the final out.
