Though not all of the snow from winter has melted, the Minnesota high school softball season is kicking into gear this week. Most teams, however, won't play their season openers until the calendar turns to April.

Four teams will brave the elements and begin play on Tuesday. The two games scheduled to be played feature Ottertail Central versus Parkers Prairie and Sebeka versus Wadena-Deer Creek.

On Thursday, four more games are scheduled to wrap up the March slate. This features New York Mills, the defending champions in Class 1A. The Eagles will take on Class 1A, Section 6 foe Parkers Prairie as the Panthers play their second game of the season.

The first full slate of games comes on April 5, when 89 contests are set to take place across the state, with all four defending state champions scheduled to take the field that day.

Class 4A champion Farmington is set to open its season against Edina, while Class 3A defending champion Winona opens its campaign against Faribault. Class 2A defending champion Zumbrota-Mazeppa will open its season against Byron.

New York Mills will also continue its season that day against Menahga.
