Senior shortstop a huge part of offensive powerhouse

Lindsey Sheehan

Shakopee's softball team came out pounding the ball from the outset of the season.

Senior shortstop Lindsey Sheehan played a big role in the Sabres' early season success, and will look to continue it in the coming section tournament.

Here is a closer look at Sheehan:

Best movie I've seen in the past year: "Burlesque."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Yeah!" by Usher; "The Best Love Song" by T-Pain and Chris Brown; "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Outgoing; hard working; energetic.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I know that I have to do well in school for my future, so my education is very important to me, but I also love playing softball. The thing is, I can't control when we play a game, especially with it being a spring sport. We get cancellations and rescheduled games very often, so I try to manage my time by studying ahead for assignments and tests.

How did you get started playing softball? I played in-house softball until the age of 12, and then I moved to traveling fast pitch.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... nervous and intimidated. I was in ninth grade, so the team didn't know me. Everyone seemed so much older and serious to me. I also had to face Ashley Walker, our pitcher, in my first at bat. I wanted to make a good impression on others and I wanted to prove that I could play at the same level as them. Yeah ... I was pretty nervous on my first day.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? My most memorable moment was in 2009 when we won the last conference game of the season at home to become [Missota] Conference champions!

What did you work on in the offseason? Everything! I work regularly on my hitting and fielding. In fielding, I take thousands of ground balls, forehand, backhand, charging, and hard hits right at me. In hitting, I work off of a tee, a machine, and live pitching as well. Repetition and hard work really help.

What are your goals for the softball season? My personal and team goal is to go to state this year and play our best. We have a strong team that has played together for several years now. We are ready to take it to the next level.

What is your favorite pregame meal? I don't eat a big meal before games, but I love to snack on Gardetto's.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? It would be nice to have indoor playing fields, so that there weren't as many cancellations.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... graduated from college and have a job I love. I want to be a physical therapist working with kids.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Never be satisfied. There is always room for improvement. I'm always looking for suggestions on ways to improve my game.
