Southwest breaks Minneapolis Conference losing streak

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 11, ST. PAUL COMO PARK 6: It’s been a long time coming for the Minneapolis City Conference. Southwest had 10 hits and took advantage of three Como Park errors to end a 25-year Minneapolis Conference losing streak in the Twin Cities championship game. Rachel Polland went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer for Southwest, which became the first team from Minneapolis to win the game since Henry beat Hill-Murray 6-5 in 1983. “We’ve worked so hard to build a strong program over here,” Southwest coach Brian Badenhoff said. “This means so much to our girls and our program.”

PARK CENTER 7, ANOKA 1: Pitcher Nicola Tade hurled a four-hitter, striking out 14 as the Class 2A, No. 3 Pirates (15-3) beat the Tornadoes in the Northwest Suburban. The lone Anoka run was the first allowed by Tade in six games this season. The junior added a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, while outfielder Kati Fern went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

SHAKOPEE 3, CHASKA 2: Sabres pitcher Ashley Walker improved to 12-0, striking out eight batters, including the final batter of the game with the tying run on second base, as Shakopee edged the Hawks in the Missota.
