Chanhassen pulls off upset

CHANHASSEN 2, SHAKOPEE 1: The Storm ended any hopes the Sabres had of a perfect season Thursday. Sophomore Abbie Voas doubled home the winning run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, giving Chanhassen (14-5) an upset victory over Class 3A, No. 3 Shakopee (15-1) in the Missota Conference. The Storm tied the game 1-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh when junior Natalie Lehrke’s run-scoring single plated freshman Elin Ellefson. Senior Courtney Saurer was the winning pitcher for the Storm, scattering eight hits, and striking out six.

APPLE VALLEY 7, SIMLEY 6: Junior Hailey Casperson scored from first base on senior Lynsi Havens’ double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Eagles a victory over the Spartans in the first round of the Class 3A, Section 3 tournament. Simley scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie it at six.

NEW LIFE ACADEMY 10, ST. AGNES 0: Rebekah Schmidt threw a no-hitter while striking out nine and also homered in the Eagles’ victory over the Aggies in the Class 1A, Section 4 quarterfinals.

ROSEMOUNT 2, LAKEVILLE NORTH 1: Senior Rachel Hoeppner and sophomore Melissa Seldon had run-scoring hits in the first inning, when the Irish scored both of their runs to beat the Panthers in the first round of the Class 3A, Section 3 tournament.
